Four debate students posing with their awards after a recent Speech and Debate tournament.

The Laker Speech and Debate team competed in the Region Tournament on Saturday (2/28) and qualified for the State Tournament to be held at Brighton High School on March 13-14.

This season has been long, and the students continue to perform well.  They have two more weeks and two more tournaments: March 6-7 is the National Qualifier Tournament at Bonneville High School, and then March 13-14 is the State Debate Tournament at Brighton High School.

Debate isn't highly spectated, but the students deserve to be recognized for the work they do.  If you see or know any of these students, please congratulate them on their accomplishments!  These students use what they learn in all of their classes and apply examples and lessons in the speeches they write and give.  Their sustained engagement in such a disciplined academic sport is to be admired.
